Dr Robert Caspari, Chief Executive Officer
Dr Caspari was Senior Vice President Commercial Operations of Myogen, Inc.; Vice President and General Manager for Biopharmaceuticals at Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; Vice President Medical and Clinical Affairs of Baxter International; and more recently President and CEO of Aurogen, Inc. Dr. Caspari is based in Boulder, Colorado and leads LCT from there, in recognition of the growing U.S. presence of the company.
Dr Paul Tan, Chief Operating Officer
Dr Tan was previously CEO of CenTec Ltd and founding Deputy Director and Head of Health Division at Genesis Research & Development Corporation Limited. Dr Tan has been research fellow, associate professor in immunology, and a physician rheumatologist. He has been involved in product development and clinical trials in the US, UK, Brazil, the Philippines, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand. He holds patents relating to the therapeutic uses of microbial products. He sits on the NZ Ministry of Health Interim Expert Committee for Xenotransplantation.
Professor Robert Elliott, Medical Director and Founding Director
Professor Elliott is a world leader in diabetes and autoimmune disease research, and co-founded LCT in 1987. Professor Elliott was Foundation Professor, Department of Paediatrics at the University of Auckland and is an Emeritus Professor of child health research.
Mr David Collinson, Founding Director
Mr Collinson founded LCT’s R&D activity with Professor Elliott in 1987, when his son became diabetic at the age of two. Mr Collinson has contributed a substantial amount of private capital to LCT and has been instrumental in raising further funding. He was CEO until he stepped down in 2007.
Scientific Panel
An independently chaired scientific committee has been formed with responsibilities for review and reporting to the Board on:
- Scientific developments and improvements
- Regulatory matters associated with the science
- Feasibility of commercialisation and research of existing and new products, and
- Patents and other intellectual property developments
- Long-term safety of insulin producing cells in a diabetes patient (after 9 years).
The chair of the committee is independent adviser Dr John Court MB, BS, FRACP a private consultant practicing in paediatric and adolescent medicine in Melbourne, Australia. The LCT CEO is not a member of the Scientific Committee.
